Pre-employment Functional Evaluations (PEFs)

The aim of the PEFs is to ensure new employees have the physical capacity to undertake their expected work duties.

Purpose of Assessing Workers

Assessing employees at the commencement, on a regular basis during and / or on leaving employment provides an effective means of identifying individual health issues that may affect an individual’s ability to perform the required tasks of their employment in a safe and effective manner.

Prime Health Group (Qld) has experience providing similar screening tools to customers across a range of industries. These customers have reported benefits such as reduced incidence of lost time injuries and ongoing financial benefits such as reduced compensation premiums and increased productivity.

Why Conduct Assessments?

When conducted appropriately, employment assessments offer a thorough approach to safe placement of staff with the benefits of:

  • Identifying whether or not the worker is able to meet the functional demands of the position
  • Establishing a baseline of ability for performing the demands of the position
  • Providing a comparative report basis if an injury occurs. This will clarify return to work potential and the identification of medical components not attributable to the injury in question
  • Providing recommendations regarding options to modify and improve function if the worker is unable to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Using criteria from a Functional Job Analysis, our consultants can develop and carry out a thorough assessment of candidates against the functional demands of the job they are seeking to perform.
  • Where a safe match exists between a candidate’s capacities and the requirements of a job, both the candidate and their employer can move forward with confidence. In addition, an accurate record of the worker’s functional status at the point of employment has been created for future reference, if required.
    • Where a safe match does not exist, our consultants can provide clear advice as to what accommodations or adjustments would be required to create a match. In this way a potential employer can make an informed and legally robust decision about whether or not it would be reasonable or possible for them to offer employment to the candidate.

METHODOLOGY AND TECHNOLOGY

Prime Health Group (Qld) is committed to being at the forefront of functional testing in Queensland with the use of the state-of-the-art functional testing equipment.

Prime Health Group (Qld) have extensively researched most of the functional testing operating systems available and as a result have chosen the BTE ER system on the basis of objectivity, reliability, published and peer-reviewed data. Appropriate and meaningful functional capacity testing combined with a detailed job analysis will result in improved selection of candidates.

Utilising industry standardised assessment protocols and understanding of job demands it is proposed the assessment will be tailored to measure an individuals:

  • Carrying capacity- bilaterally
  • Lifting capacity- including a range between ground and shoulder level
  • Grip Strength
  • Static push and pull strength in positions relevant to job demands eg mould changes
  • Repetitive forward and above shoulder reaching
  • Specific work demand capacities as determined by the job analysis process
